Lets get down to the What, why, where, when, who and How. The name 'Akhriseats1' may sound peculiar but there is a little story behind this. Most of my education life I have preferred to sit in the last row where the concept of ‘Party now, Study Later’ prevails. But that is not the only reason; I also preferred being able to see all that was going on. It allowed me to hide in plain sight when needed to, you know take a break and allow myself to day dream; it’s quite healthy actually.
Naturally I was involved in a lot of mischievousness by virtue of my seat and I wholeheartedly participated in that. This preference persisted during my time at university where I had the most delightful time with my fellow ‘Akhriseaters’. It was a special kind of a bond. Whatever the occasion demanded, someone need to sleep, cheat 2 in an exam, was put a difficult question by the teacher or just needed cheering up; one of the 'akhri-seats-wale' (people in the last seats) would just be there for you.
On our batch trip, we akhriseaters took it upon ourselves to ensure everyone has a wonderful time 3. It is here, on this fateful trip, we decided to call ourselves Akhriseats.
Sitting on the back benches is not going to stand in place of your success and it certainly does not mean you deserve any less attention than the other students around and it should not even be a big deal. People around, however have feel this resolute and unyielding need to pass statements, put a label on things; they just like to bandy with words. This blog is going to be a statement of my own. Here I am going to prove that long lasting friendships aren’t a fantasy, and that even though life happens, people can still make them work 4. I am going to prove back-benchers are no less talented than their peers and they deserve to succeed as much as the next person. Hopefully, I can make this platform an interesting, entertaining and a frequent visiting place for the readers. Please write to us. We would love to hear from you even if its for kicks and giggles.
And, oh yeah the picture. Its the Akhriseats boys imitating the pose the made when the first came into being on their fateful batch trip. Fingers crossed people!
1 Akhri is an Urdu word which literally translates to last, so 'akhriseats' literally translates to last seats.
2 Well cheating is not something I am especially proud of, but the fun part that came along is worth remembering, so maybe I am a little proud.
3 We passed with flying colours, by the way. The batch owes us a lot for those efforts because the going did get rough as the journey was long and tedious. It took enormous energy and intellect to lift up those deflated poor souls around.
4 Going to convince the unemployed, idiotic fools I call friends, to contribute and promote this blog. Thus, continuing the party that started four and a half years ago in National University of Science and Technology, NUST.
